ABOUT THIS PROJECT
This EP was composed and performed back when the first trailer or the 2018 version of Halloween dropped in April of 2018. It was exciting and created great anticipation for the release of this film.
To pay homage as both a fan of the franchise, I being a fan of John Carpenter's music and a beginning composer at the time, this seemed like a great small personal project to tackle. I treated it as if I was creating a demo to submit to the filmmakers to get the job of composing the actual score.
ABOUT THE MUSIC
I chose to compose a collection of 4 cues showcasing the Halloween Theme, Laurie's Theme, and the Stalking Theme. There are little flourishes of the Meyer's House Theme and other tidbits from the original score.
The music is both an original work by me while being a homage to the original thematic material featured in the 1979 version of Halloween. However, to keep in line with the idea of the new film taking place 40 years later, I wanted the music to evolve and feel 40 years later but still have a hint of the retro aspects that make the music so iconic.
What does it mean that I have "evolved" the material?
Well, the story takes place 40 years later and so the music should not sound like 1979. There is a modern twist, the compositional elements have been altered in a way that at first listen it sounds like the original but when you listen closer, the new variations and nuances will be noticed.
